Author Bio
Alexandra Amor was born in Toronto, Canada in 1967. Nothing much happened after that until 1989, when she arrived in Vancouver, BC with her dog, her blue hatchback and an impressive catalog of Dick Francis novels.
That year Alexandra joined a meditation circle that turned out to be a cult. She spent ten years under the control of a manipulative spiritual guru and then the ensuing decade in recovery from that experience.
Alexandra has been self-employed since 1999, first as a Virtual Assistant and now as a writer. She wrote Cult, A Love Story to educate people about the dangers of cults, and to offer information to the families and loved ones of those who might be involved in a cult.
Her recovery from her cult experience included personal healing and also educating herself about how and why we join coercive groups and how to avoid these situations. Alexandra is passionate about educating people about the choices they’re making in the self-help / personal growth / spirituality industry so that they can avoid making the mistakes she made, including being psychologically manipulated, emotionally coerced and abused.
In May 2010, Cult, A Love Story was awarded an Independently Published Book Award in the category of Autobiography/Memoir.
More information about Cult, A Love Story, including an excerpt of the book and a free handout that covers the five key questions everyone should ask before they join a personal growth organization, church or spiritual teacher, can be found at cultalovestory.com.
